Gas Work Notification

Gas Safe
From 1st April 2005, all gas work by Gas Safe / Corgi Registered Installers will be required to notify when they install or exchange every gas appliance of any type or input rating in a residential dwelling.
A residential dwelling is defined as a unit of residential accommodation, whether this is a sole or main residence used by a single person or people living together as a family or a residence used by no more than six people living together as a single household, including a household where care is provided for residents. With regard to Gas Work Notification, a residential dwelling includes, but is not exclusive to the following: house, flat, bungalow, maisonette, house boat, certain leisure accommodation vehicles (that fall within the scope of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations),
Work notification is now a requirement of Gas Safe Registration. It has been introduced by CORGI to help Registered Installers comply with Government led changes. Under the Government changes, it is now a requirement of installers in England and Wales to notify Local Building Control (LBC) of work carried out installing appliances which could cost customers up to £300.
Work Notification has been introduced to allow CORGI Registered Installers to meet this requirement by notifying CORGI at a much lower cost. Once work has been notified, CORGI will notify the LBC and also issue a certificate to the homeowner. This certificate will be used to form part of the Home Information Pack which will be a legal requirement when selling houses from January 2007.
Under Gas Work Notification, once CORGI has been notified of an exchange or installation, CORGI will issue a certificate to the homeowner. This declaration will confirm that the work has been carried out by a CORGI registered installer, and that the installer declares the work meets the requirements of the relevant Gas and/or Building Regulations.
Homeowners will be expecting either a Declaration of Safety or Building Regulations Compliance Certificate from installers as these documents will be required for the Home Information Pack (HIP) that will be required for selling houses from January 2007.
